G-Dragon “미치GO” M/V

MichiGo

I’ve been slacking a bit, but here’s some nu nu from flamboyant Korean MC G-Dragon titled “미치GO” mixing elements of his trademark bizarre flow over a sick trap beat. The video itself is reminiscent of his previous video for Crayon and One of A Kind, with cameos from labelmates Taeyang, Seven and Teddy. While in the past GD hasn’t really wowed me as a solo act after his mini album One of A Kind changed my opinion this song itself is actually turning me into a a fan of him outside of BIGBANG. You can watch the video after the break Continue reading

[HOMMEBOY of The Week] HAPPY BIRTHDAY CL of 2NE1

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I haven’t done one of these in weeks, but i figured why not do one on a girl who better than today’s Birthday Girl, Lee Chaerin aka Seoul City’s baddest female CL of 2NE1 aka The Leader or just CL. Since the start of her career in 2009 with 2NE1, CL who turned 22 today, has been the muse for Jeremy Scott’s work with Adidas, known for her spunky TLC inspired Tomboy style mixed with a fearing, take no shit stage persona that can be compared to a Michael Jackson and Beyoncé. CL and 2NE1 faced criticism for not being like the other Korean girl groups who portrayed traditional female male images, which in my view is kind of degrading, the group fought back while getting wilder and crazier. Fluent in Korean, English, French and Japanese CL took her fierce concept stateside and around the world with 2NE1 blazing stages, red carpets and fashion weeks, dressed in Chanel, Jeremy Scott, Balmain and Givency.

[Music Review] B.A.P – “One Shot”

One Shot

After spending all of 2012 with comeback after comeback, it’s no surprise B.A.P opens up 2013 with a new release. Their 1st  release of the new year is their 2nd EP “One Shot” Featuring the singles “Rain Sound” and The Title track, this EP or mini album showcases the more emotional and vulnerable side of the group, opposed to their previous concepts of Power, strength and the occasional aegyo. The lyrics are majority penned by the leader Bang Yong Guk, with songs like ‘Coma’ relating to a lover who left and comparing the feeling of not being in reality and feeling like you’re not alive, whereas the track ‘0’ is about feeling incapable of being anything greater in life, the only hint to the BAP of last year can be found on the album’s opener ‘Punch’ with the hard hitting instrumental, that is reminiscent of their hip-hop songs. You can buy One Shot on iTunes and Kpoptown.

[Music] Jaejoong “Mine” M/V

Jaejoong

Former TVXQ! member and current JYJ singer Jaejoong released his solo debut video and mini album ‘Mine’ with the dark video featuring allegories depicting gaining a sense of control using imagery such as diamond masks, snakes and crows? I’m sure the conspiracy theorist will have fun with this. The song takes a departure from the R&B sounds that he’s known for with JYJ to a more dark Pop-Rock feel to it. Check out the video after the break and you can purchase his mini album on iTunes now. Continue reading

[Album Review] Girls’ Generation (소녀시대) “I GOT A BOY”

IGAB

I really want to like Girl’s Generation, I really do because the hype an popularity surrounding them is immense and they are the first name (aside from and prior to The Psy Effect) brought up when mentioning K-Pop. However their 4th album ‘I Got A Boy’ does nothing for me artistically, seeing that this album is more like a b-side collection with of most the songs being recorded between 2008-2011. Now to keep this short, songs like ‘Talk Talk’ and “Express 999” standout and give me a good pop fix which is a plus and cuts like “Lost In Love” and “Promise” are very heartfelt and well performed. Another positive of this album is that despite mostly being recorded during their “Cutesy” years this album takes a complete redirection with more ballads and sass.
