Bands I’m Fucking With . . . Part Duex!

Nicola Roberts of Girls Aloud

I’ve decided to do another edition to “Bands I’m Fucking With” . I felt it was only proper to do one of other bands that I discovered before this year and some I discovered recently.  I have a vast collection of music that I jam to on the regular of various genres and styles. Most of these acts are very underground and have little mainstream attention, and if they do have mainstream attention they’re most like big in another country. The main point of me posting these artist is that they in some way have influenced me musically, visually or just made really good shit for me to jam to. I recommend you taking a listen to all the acts they are extremely talented, and if you like them please support them.

First up is Nicola Roberts (pictured above), the fiery haired diva rose  to fame back in 2002 as a contestant on the hit U.K. reality T.V. series Popstars her first audition wasn’t successful however given a second chance she managed to eventually become a member of the U.K.’s most successful girl group Girls Aloud. Together, they managed to have 20 top 10 singles and 4 #1′s on the U.K. charts. The group eventually took a hiatus in 2009 which saw members Cheryl Cole and Nadine Coyle to be the most expected of solo success. Leaving Nicola one of the least likely to become a solo act of let alone successful. After putting out her own make up line and  appearing on red carpets all across the U.K., Roberts released her debut single, the Diplo produced ‘Beat of My Drum‘ it didn’t perform as expected but the reviews were rave. The song itself deals with Nicola’s struggles at the beginning of Girls Aloud, from her lack of dance ability to her insecurities of having pale skin. She recently released a follow up which was written by Dragonette which also is receiving great reviews. There are also a couple B-sides that were accompanying the singles “Fix Me” “Porcelain Heart” and “Disco Blisters and A Come Down”  all are very superb.  Her debut album “Cinderella’s Eyes” is available 28 September 2011.

Next up is singer Solomon, self described as Electro-Hip-Pop Star hailing from New York by way of California, originally starting out as a rapper he eventually grew comfortable at singing and started recording a more

Solomon

Electro Pop sound that is currently taking over all existence on radio and television. After the release of his debut EP ‘Shades of Black‘ in 2009 we soon saw Solomon performing in clubs all over the  NYC eventually opening for some really big names in the business. He recently released  his sophomore EP “The Love Rocker Project” which was led by the single “With Us U Can’t” featuring LGBT rapper Bry’NT. Currently Solomon is touring promoting The Love  all over the United States.

Wynter Gordon and Robyn

The next couple of acts are two fearless dance divas who are known internationally for anthems that make even the coolest hipster in the club pump his fist. I’m talking about the Swedish Pixie, Robyn and the Lion maned Wynter Gordon. Robyn got her start back in the bubblegum era along side Briney, Christina and Jessica like her fellow blonde pop tarts Robyn scored a couple of hit singles stateside however as the others saw a rise, Robyn was seeing a decline in sales and distaste in the music her label wanted her to do. After a final fight with her label about the direction of her next record Robyn struck out on her own and released the eponymous self titled album . She went on to score several hits from the album and after a 5 year period of touring she released a musical trilogy I swear was about me. Body Talk as it was known to the rest of the world, seen Robyn releasing 3 albums within an 8 month period during 2010 to make up for the lost time, she also made a stateside comeback on the VMAs performing the lead single Dancing On My Own.

Wynter on the other hand had a very different beginning, coming from a broken home in the hard streets on Queens, NY. She begin healing her pain through music she started writing songs and eventually signed to Atlantic records and wrote the title track on Mary J. Blige’s The Breakthrough. By 2009 we saw Wynter transitioning from R&B music to Dance music, collaborating with David Guetta, Afrojack, Freemasons and many more. She eventually released her first EP The First Dance featuring her worldwide smash single Dirty Talk . She soon went on to release Her debut album/follow up EP(stateside) With The Music I Die which was met with critical acclaim and the Title Track becoming a chart hit in Australia.

Spencer Neezey and Kim Wyatt are Her Majesty & The Wolver

Finally I’ll leave you with this, what do you get when you mix a former Pussycat Doll and will.i.am’s long lost brother? You get Her Majesty and the wolves who rose to fame in 2010 with their buzz single Glaciers was tearing up dancefloors across the U.K. . Much like my current favorite band Steed Lord HMATW is all about the performing aspect of their career, with elaborate costuming and live beats, they received acclaim for their live shows from festivals during the summer of 2011. They recently released their Debut album 111 in the UK and it received even more acclaim for the diversity of the production featured on the album from Dance, to Pop to Dubstep.
